Woooohoooooo!!!! Check these out!!! These amazing creations of tasty perfection are called Garlic Butter Bacon Cheddar Wheels. Honestly, I thought about them while laying awake one night again. (It always happens to me). My mind wanted me to jump out of bed and make them right then and there, but my lazy ass said “Are you kidding me right now, you lazy ass?” haha. Yeah, I wasn’t about to fire up the oven at midnight. But they turned out SO STINKIN’ GOOD, it would have been worth it!!
With all good things in life, there’s always benefits, yes? Well, the benefits to making these bacon cheddar wheels are more than the obvious taste bud addiction, or in other words, the flavour factor. These could almost be used like money.. kinda!! Say for instance, you make these for the kids. Let them have HALF of a wheel. See how they beg for the other half??? Yessssssss.. that’s all in the grand plan! You can use these as leveraging tools! Want their beds made? Use the wheels. Want them to clean their room? Use the wheels. Want them to give you a pedicure? Well….. I wouldn’t go that far. ……….. but if you would, go for it.
Regardless of how you use them, these Bacon Cheddar Wheels are amazing. They have the addicting salty, smokey bite of bacon, the cheesy cheese flavor of cheddar of course.. and the pièce de résistance??? Garlic butter. Yep.. allll lovingly brushed over the tops of the wheels, making them all shiny and pretty. Oh my sweet baby you-know-who…. these will spark every taste bud you have into dancing to Flavour-Town on your tippy toes like Fred Flinstone at the bowling alley.
If you know me, you know it has to be easy right? If you have left over bacon (hahahaaaaahhaahahaha!!!!! I mean.. really, who has LEFTOVER BACON???)…. but ok, if you do- use that. No left over bacon? Microwave 4 – 5 (probably 5 at least) slices really quick so they’re crispy. If you’re cooking a big batch of these for game day or appetizers, then cook a bunch of bacon in the oven. Cool it down slightly. Crumble then Mince… and I mean.. MINCE!!! Same with the onion. You want tiny tiny pieces of both. The cheddar doesn’t have to be minced as much because it just melts and looks all gorgeous.
Roll out the dough. These Bacon Cheddar Wheels can be made with any pre-made dough you like. Pillsbury (which is what I used), a grocery store brand, or often if you stop by the local pizza shop, they’ll let you buy some raw dough to take home. You could make your own which would be super cheap and maybe kind of fun depending on your mood… but pre-made is easier and for me, well, you know what my ass is like. *laaazy*
Roll the dough into a long rectangle. Sprinkle the seasonings and ingredients. Roll up starting from the long side… roll to the end of the other long side. Like a cinnamon roll, but savoury, bacony, and delicious. Cut, bake, and then, like icing on a roll – here comes the Garlic Butter. Be forewarned – the heavens may open up, harps may play and angels might smile, wink, and blow kisses of encouragement at you as you brush on the liquid gold. Just don’t use MARGARINE. Ugh. I’m pretty sure Angels don’t like margarine and neither does anything else that’s made of awesomeness.
Let them cool slightly and serve them all melty and cheesy if you’d like, or room temperature is fine as well. Please don’t serve them out-of-the-fridge type cold. Ew… no-one likes that sort of hard cracking cheese and cold hard bread. Just… no.
What about garlic stank???
And yes. There’s garlic in this recipe… and lots of it. Worried about the whole breath issue thing?? Don’t. Share with whoever .. (whomever?) you might be getting close enough to, for it to matter. Your garlic breath and their garlic breath cancels each other out. Happy days of scarfing down the Garlic Butter Bacon Cheddar Wheels are here again!! They’re so good though that you might cuddle up on the couch with a plate of them, hoarding them to yourself, and frankly not give a S*#@ about what others think about you and your breath. garlic butter bacon cheddar wheels
- 1 pillsbury pizza dough
- 4 - 5 slices bacon crispy, minced
- 1/2 c cheddar
- 2 tbsp minced onion
- 1 tbsp italian seasoning
- 3 tbs melted butter
- 3 tsp garlic minced
- parsley to garnish
- Preheat oven to 350
- Roll out pizza dough to a long rectangle
- Sprinkle the italian seasoning, bacon, onion and cheddar over the top of the dough
- Starting from the longest side, roll up the dough onto itself like a cinnamon roll
- Cut in 1" sections
- Place on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until the wheels are golden brown
- Meanwhile, mix together the melted butter, garlic and parsley
- Brush the wheels with the garlic butter when they come out of the oven.
