Sweet Potato Butter (tastes Like Fall in a Jar)
You know how some ingredients just pull double duty in a natural way? Sweet potatoes are one of those rare gems. They’re equally at home on the dinner plate or in dessert mode. So naturally, I turned them into a creamy, spiced spread that basically is autumn in a jar.
Say hello to your new fall best friend, Sweet Potato Butter. It’s smooth. It’s cozy. We’re talking pumpkin-pie vibes with every bite. Use it on toast, swirl it into yogurt, or build a breakfast parfait that looks fancy but takes like five minutes.
Have it when you’re craving pumpkin pie flavors, but just honestly couldn’t put out the effort to make a whole stinkin’ pie.

🛒 Ingredient Notes
✅ Sweet Potatoes: The star of the show. We bake them and let them semi-cool, so we can do this the day ahead if you want. Or if you have leftovers from dinner, those are perfect to use!
✅ Pumpkin Spice: This is what gives the butter its cozy vibes. If you don’t have store-bought pumpkin spice, no worries, I got you. I’ll pop a quick DIY blend in the recipe card below.
✅ Sweetener: I used 200 ml (About ¾ cup) of apple juice. But if you like extra sweetness you can add maple syrup or brown sugar.
✅ Vanilla Yogurt & Nilla Cookies (optional): These are for serving so they aren’t integral to making the butter.

✨Tips to Know Before You Make This
Timing: Unless you have already cooked sweet potatoes on hand, we need to bake them first to soften them up. This is perfect for make-ahead activities, so the next day, it’s basically throwing it all in the crock pot and pressing “go”.
Canned: Yes, you can use canned sweet potatoes for this recipe! Just be sure to drain them very well before proceeding with the recipe.

No Pumpkin Spice? Make Your Own
If you don’t have store-bought pumpkin spice, you can easily whip up your own. Here’s a simple blend from The Pioneer Woman:
- 3 Tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp ground ginger
- 2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1½ tsp ground allspice
- 1½ tsp ground cloves
Whisk together and store in an airtight jar.
How To Use Sweet Potato Butter
Honestly, you can spread this on just about anything. Very similar to my Peach Butter recipe, sweet potato butter goes great on toast, pancakes, waffles, muffins, even stirred into oatmeal.
My personal favorite is the parfait version! Crushed Nilla cookies on the bottom, then layers of yogurt and sweet potato butter. Or you can try spreading it on Fluffy Waffles or Pork & Stuffing Muffins.
