These super easy Cheese and Bacon Rolls are so incredibly delicious, that you’ll be asked to make them again and again. Smoky bacon, ooey gooey cheddar, and spices all rolled into scrumptious pastry – they’re divine!
30 Minute Cheese and Bacon Rolls
I find when a comfort food craving hits, one that’s garlicky, buttery, and melty cheesy, this is the ticket for me. They have the addicting salty, smokey bite of bacon, the cheesy cheese flavor of cheddar of course.. and the pièce de résistance???
Garlic butter.
Oh, my sweet baby you-know-who. These will spark every taste bud you have into dancing to Flavour-Town on your tippy-toes like Fred Flinstone at the bowling alley, in under 30 short minutes.
You know me, and you know I like easy recipes! There are no fancy ingredients needed for this recipe and all the ingredients are easily found in grocery stores.
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Pizza Dough: For ease of use, I like to use refrigerator pizza dough. Pillsbury is usually the brand I use (not sponsored), but store-brand dough is perfectly fine to use. Alternatively, if you have access to pizza dough made in an Italian marketplace, that’s great as well!
- Bacon: Crispy bacon is what you want here. If you have leftovers from breakfast, this is a perfect use for it. If you don’t have anything like that, store-bought bacon bits are a great stand-in. I don’t recommend using imitation bacon bits as they’re not as delicious as using real bacon for this recipe. Smoked chicken or turkey bacon can also be a great alternative.
- Cheddar: I like to use sharp cheddar for this recipe. You don’t use a lot, so using a stronger cheddar will carry that flavor throughout. Feel free to tone it down by using mild cheddar if you prefer.
- Butter: This is used for the topping when the baked pinwheels are ready. Margarine can be used as well.
- Seasonings: Garlic powder, Onion powder, Italian seasoning
How To Make Baked Bacon Cheddar Pinwheels
STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 350F and line a baking dish with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
STEP 2: Roll out pizza dough and season, then sprinkle the rest of the ingredients, leaving a margin around the entire edge.
STEP 3: Starting from the longest side, roll up the dough into a log and cut it into sections.
STEP 4: Bake. Meanwhile, prepare the garlic butter topping.
STEP 5: When the cheese and bacon rolls come out of the oven, brush the tops liberally with the melted butter topping.
Take a look at the printable recipe card below for exact measurements, directions and additional notes.
Top Cooking Tip
Let the rolls cool slightly after brushing on the butter topping so they’re easier to handle but still all melty and cheesy.
Variations For This Cheddar Bacon Rolls Recipe
Cheese: You can switch up the cheese and develop a totally different flavor profile. Try mozzarella or greyer for an even more meltiness. Want a zippy flavor? Substitute the cheddar for Monterey Jack or Jalapeno Havarti.
Heat: If you live your life on the spicy side, amp up the heat with these pinwheels by adding dry chili flakes to the butter mixture. Another fun option could be adding hot chilies or sliced jalapenos to the inside of the rolls when making the cheese/bacon section.
Dough: For a flakier dough when baked, try using crescent roll sheets or even a sheet of puff pastry.
Serving And Storing
I absolutely love serving these cheddar bacon rolls with practically everything. They make a great side ‘bun’ to serve with soups like my easy chicken noodle soup, or my slow cooker beef barley stew.
Even as a side to a full meal salads is delicious and filling. They also make a wonderful hot appetizer for game days or movie nights is always fun as well.
To store leftovers, cover them with plastic wrap or place them in a lidded container for up to 4-5 days. Re-warm them in the microwave for a minute or two or I’ve served them at room temperature and they were fine.
I don’t recommend serving them directly out of the fridge because hard-cracking cheese and cold hard bread aren’t good-tasting experiences. Also, I don’t recommend freezing these rolls because the cheese will not melt again nicely.
If you’ve tried this recipe, please consider giving it a ***** Star Rating on the recipe card and leave a comment, letting me know how you liked it! Thanks for stopping by The Salty Pot and I hope you have a fantastic day!
