With the perfect chewy center, these sweet and salty cookies will be Santa’s new favorite.
Sweet and Salty Christmas Cookies
These sweet and salty cookies are so much fun because they are like a little bag of Christmas tail mix, with everything but the kitchen sink in them. If you are a fan of sweet and salty combinations like chocolate-covered pretzels you will love this recipe. Kids absolutely love the fun of tossing everything into the mixer and crushing their favorite chips and cookies.
How To Make This Recipe Your Own
Because of how these use so many fun additions you can really customize them as much as you want to make them even more fun. Basically, whatever is in your baking cupboard is fair game!
These cookies are a great way to use up extra caramel and toffee chips leftover from making caramel toffee cookies to help add a fun twist. Simply swap out some of the chocolate chips or sprinkles to do this.
The garnishing also leaves you a lot of wiggle room to change things up a bit. You can even have a bit of fun by melting down chocolate chips or red baking chips and drizzling over your cookies after they have cooled.
The only rule to swapping out varieties of ingredients is to keep the proportions the same. If you swap something out for another, use the same amount so you do not change the overall texture of the cookies and end up with a flop.
Tips for Making These Christmas Cookies Perfect
Start with Unsalted Butter: when making sweet and salty cookies like this. By using unsalted butter you can ensure that you have full control over how much salt goes into the recipe. For the most part, the salty flavor will be coming from the chips and pretzels making it important that you do not accidentally add too much salt by using salted butter.
Always Preheat Your Oven: Always preheat your oven to get an even bake. While this can be inconvenient it can make a big difference in the final texture of your cookies. If the ingredients melt before the cookies start to bake you end up with a crispy hard mess.
Cream the Sugar and Butter Very Well: It is important to always cream your butter and sugar together when making cookies. When baking this step of creaming butter and sugar together themes to distribute everything evenly throughout the recipe for the perfect cookie.
Careful Not to Overbake: When baking be careful to not overbake these sweet and salty cookies. If you bake them too long it is common for them to take on a crispy texture. Pull your cookies out when the edges are just beginning to brown. They will continue to bake after they have been removed from the oven giving you the perfect chewy center to your sweet and salty cookies.
Storing these Christmas Cookies
Keeping them in an airtight container with a lid is quite fine if you’re serving these very soon. Holding them in the fridge will make them last longer, most likely up to two weeks. If you’re making these cookies ahead of time, keep them in the freezer in a freezer-friendly container for up to 3 months.
